Day Five: "Cocksucker Asshole wiring Bullshit!"

We knew our good weather luck couldn't hold and so it didn't. We awoke to fog this morning and a much cooler day with rain forcast for the rest of the week. This meant that the debris pile in our front yard, which has been on hold for the last few days, had to be either hauled to the dump or put under cover (can you imagine the horrible soupy mess that would be created by a mixture of rain and a pile of lath and plaster debris? Not to mention the cost of dumping the heavy load - if you could even get it into the back of our jeep.) So we opted for a lean-to tarp rig off of our front steps - my job - and Steve went back up into the attic for the day.

Knob and TubeThe thing about fog and cloudy weather is that it makes for a much more pleasant attic environment - relatively speaking. A good thing for Steve since it looks like he'll be spending AT LEAST another day up there, perhaps more, due to all of the Asshole Wiring buried up there. It's not just the old knob-and-tube that is a pain. In particular, it's the bullshit wiring the previous owner attempted when wiring up the washing machine upstairs. Not only did he put a washing machine on an already overloaded circuit but he did it without a GROUND!! And he apparently forgot to screw the outlet box to a stud. So tomorrow we remove the dryer - something we were hoping to avoid ever having to do again by creating a new attic access in the bathroom - and cut into the wall. Have we ever mentioned what a cocksucker Heik (the 'contractor' we bought the house from) is?

It hasn't been all bad though. Zoe had a nap today... ;)
